Idaho Brewers Festival Comes to Nampa

To sample all of the specialty and custom-crafted brews from the potato state, you'd have to do some serious pub-crawling. Fortunately, you can save time and gas--and a potential DUI--at the Crescent Brewery's inaugural Idaho Brewers Festival at Lakeview Park in Nampa. Brewers from all over Idaho will conveniently congregate to showcase their products, and beer lovers and their families are invited to take in some sun, fun, music and, of course, beer.

This three-day beer-tastic event will feature suds from 16 Idaho brewing companies, including Grand Teton Brewing Co. , Laughing Dog Brewing , Sun Valley Brewing and Snake River Brewery . The venue boasts a grassy outdoor amphitheater where live music acts like Decade Blues Band, The Quartertons and Voice of Reason are scheduled to perform throughout the weekend. Plus, local food vendors will be dishing out barbeque and corn on the cob to ensure that no one goes hungry. Brick 29 Bistro, co-sponsor of the event, will park the B29 Streatery food truck to serve up its hearty fare--like pulled pork grilled cheese, BLTs and hand-cut fries.

A day pass can be purchased for $20, which includes a tasting cup and 16 beer samples. Regular admission is $5 at the gate, and kids younger than 12 get in free. A portion of the proceeds will go to benefit Camp River Run.

Firefighters stayed busy over the holiday weekend, responding to a total of nine medical calls in three days and a number of alarm activations. Engine 3 responded to a report of the smell of smoke behind a residence in the River Run neighborhood, but it turned out to be a neighbor grilling on his back porch. Meanwhile, a motorcycle accident on Beaty Street resulted in only minor injuries as well.

On Sunday, Davidson Engine 3 moved up to cover Cornelius while Cornelius firefighters helped Huntersville Fire Department battle a condominium fire that started when a dog kicked over a tube that was being used to launch illegal fireworks.

INCIDENT REPORTS

TUESDAY, JUNE 28 , 3:03 p.m., June Washam Road at Davidson Run Lane – A Davidson woman driving a 2008 GMC and an Albemarle man driving a Bushwackers Landscaping truck were traveling in opposite directions down June Washam Road. The vehicles struck driver side mirrors as they passed, causing an estimated $550 in total damage to the vehicles. The vehicles were estimated to be traveling at 25 mph at the time of impact. No injuries were reported, and both vehicles were able to be driven from the scene.

FRIDAY, JULY 1, 10:59 p.m., Beaty Street at Magnolia Street – Engine 1 responded to a motor vehicle collision in which two motorcyclists collided with one another. One motorcyclist stated that he hit his brakes in order to avoid hitting the other motorcycle, causing him to lay his motorcycle down. The driver sustained minor injuries, but all patients refused transport by the responding Mecklenburg County Medic unit. No further hazards were found and all emergency personnel returned to routine service.

SATURDAY, JULY 2, 7:34 p.m., 21421 Kelly Street – Engine 2 responded to a fire alarm activation. No hazards were visible from outside upon firefighters’ arrival, and the alarm was determined to be false in nature after investigating. The incident commander called a control time and cleared all responding emergency personnel.

SUNDAY, JULY 3, 6:56 p.m., 18919 Riverwind Lane, River Run – Engine 3 responded to a report of the smell of smoke in the area behind a residence. Mecklenburg County Volunteer Fire Dispatch informed responding firefighters that the homeowner was planning to leave the scene prior to the arrival of emergency personnel. Upon arrival, Engine 3′s crew found the residence unoccupied, whereupon they walked to the rear of the home searching for hazards. No hazards were found, but a neighbors was spotted through the tree line standing on his back porch grilling. The smell of smoke was determined to be coming from the neighbor’s grill. Firefighters called a control time on the incident and cancelled any further responding emergency units.
