Gateway crushed early by Lake Erie
SAUGET -- The Lake Erie Crushers piled on seven runs in the first inning and cruised to a 9-3 win over the Gateway Grizzlies on Tuesday night at GCS Ballpark.
The Grizzles fell to 17-25. Gateway resides in fifth place, 12 1/2 games behind red-hot River City in the Frontier League's West Division.
Lake Eric improved to 18-24. The Crushers, tied for fourth place, are 5 1/2 games back of Windy City in the East Division.
Whatever suspense there was for the game was quickly extinguished by an early Lake Eric uprising.
The Crushers scored seven runs on six hits to open the scoring in the first inning. The first seven batters of the game reached base against Gateway hard-luck starter Brad Stone. Kyle Shaffer capped off the big first inning for Lake Erie with a grand slam to over the right field fence.
Gateway made the score 7-2 in the third inning on a two-run home run by Joe Agreste -- his fifth roundtripper of the season.
Lake Erie extended their lead with two more runs in the fourth. Nick Mahin drove in a run on a single and Andrew Davis scored a run with a double.
Gateway finished off the scoring in the sixth inning, getting a solo home run from veteran Charlie Lisk, his team-best ninth of the season.
The Grizzlies resume their six-game homestand today with game two against the Crushers.
Corey Davisson (0-2) will take the mound for Gateway. The first pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
Grizzlies notes: Today is social networking night at GCS Ballpark, as well as Keystone Event Staffing Night. Thursday night's series finale features Ladies Night at the Ballpark, highlighted by the always popular Diamond Dig.

Threatening to blind, burn and blister unwitting victims from Lake Erie down to Long Island, it is creeping ever closer to New York City. Giant hogweed (Heracleum mantegazzianum) has arrived in the state for the fourth summer in a row.

Many local municipal websites not in compliance belonged to smaller, less populous areas. Officials, when told of the missing documentation, said they weren’t aware of the provision in the law.
One of the larger municipalities not meeting the requirement was the city of Meadville. The City Clerk’s Office updated their site shortly after they were notified.
The online posting requirement does not apply to governments not maintaining websites. As of last week, 18 of Erie County’s 38 municipalities were not online.
