A Scandic Sets Sail Out Of Sweden

Pandox has agreed to sell the 144-room Scandic Bromma , in Stockholm's Brommaplan area, to Swedish construction company JM for SKr125 million (approximately US$20 million), of which Skr27 million (US$4 million) is a deferred tax liability. JM AB previously purchased two other buildings in the area at the end of 2010 and aims to redevelop the properties into a mixed-use development containing around 600 residential units and 14,000 m² of retail and other facilities. The deal with Pandox is expected to be completed by the end of June and construction is due to start in 2013.

Three Ramadas For Sale

Three Ramada hotels in England's West Midlands have been put on the market this week after the properties' owner, UK-based hotel, residential and construction company Fortmere Group , fell into administration. The 68-room Ramada Warwick Hotel and Conference Centre , in Kenilworth; the 75-room Ramada Park Hall Hotel and Conference Centre , in Wolverhampton; and the 81-room Ramada Birmingham Oldbury Hotel and Conference Centre , in Dudley, were all operated by Fortmere under a franchise agreement. The three hotels are continuing to trade as normal. "The steep decline in the property market has had a serious impact on operations, which includes the three hotels, and the group are therefore unable to continue to operate these businesses," commented Ken Latham , Fortmere's operations manager.

A Wyndham Blows Into Yerevan

Wyndham Worldwide 's Ramada brand was also in the news for cheery reasons this week, as it was announced that Wyndham has signed a franchise agreement with Rameo Otel cjsc for the Ramada Yerevan , in Armenia, at the crossroads of Eastern Europe and Western Asia. The 150-room hotel is expected to open in 2013 and will be Wyndham's first property in Armenia.

A Summer Opening In Germany For Jumeirah

Dubai-based Jumeirah will be making its debut in mainland Europe this summer when its Jumeirah Frankfurt hotel opens in Germany, in Frankfurt's PalaisQuartier mixed-use complex.

As well as its own restaurant the hotel has its own bar – The Wave Bar. The Britannia web site claims that it’s a “regular meeting place for theatre-goers”, but I am doubtful. It’s a very cheap bar, and the clientele tend to be locals who are there all day long. Luckily as the hotel is in the centre of town there are plenty of other  places to get a drink.

Service - To have breakfast included was £45 (£52 for two people). I don’t know if it was just because it was quiet, but rather than a cooked breakfast buffet you had to order it. Full English consisted of 2 sausages, bacon, fried egg, beans, and half a tomato; which is pretty rubbish as it costs £9.95 if its not included in your room price -although you can have as much cereal and toast as you want. Unfortunately breakfast was accompanied by GMTV on a giant screen.
