Cake .  I have held dinosaur theme parties for two of my sons.  For one, I made and decorated the cake using the dinosaur shaped pan by Wilton.  This took a long time to decorate, but turned out to be quite impressive looking.  For the other party, I made a round cake, iced it with white, trimmed it with green icing, wrote the message in blue icing, and put some dinosaur candy decorations on it.  That cake was far easier and took less time, but did not have the same visual appeal.

Decorations .  I had a hard time finding dinosaur theme party supplies but was able to find napkins and blowouts.  For the tablecloth, I used a large sheet of butcher’s paper to cover the table and then lay out crayons and told the party guests that they could decorate it with pictures of their favourite dinosaurs.  This worked well as it gave them a craft activity and was an easy tablecloth to make.  I also made dinosaur footprints out of poster paper and put them on the floor leading out to the backyard where the activities were going to take place.

Food .  We had dino-shaped chicken nuggets, dino eggs (hard boiled eggs), and a veggie tray for the herbivores!

Activities .  We had a dino treasure hunt in the backyard.  I had hidden toy dinosaurs all over and the kids got to keep as many as they found.  I had the kids pretend they were their favourite dinosaur and act how they imagine that dinosaur would have acted.  This game wasn’t the best idea as their were carnivores wanting to eat their herbivore friends, so I wouldn’t recommend it!  I think getting a dinosaur excavation kit and having the kids take turns participating would have been a better idea.

Extras .  It’s really easy to find dinosaur theme gifts to send home in the treat bags.  Some ideas include grow dinosaurs, dinosaur erasers, bubbles, figurines, and tattoos.  I was even able to find crayons shaped like dinosaurs.
