A source tells us that Rick Perry just attended a luncheon in Midtown Manhattan with about 30 political insiders and people with ties to New York's financial community - with longtime aide Dave Carney at his side.
Carney was one of the 16 staffers who walked off en masse from Newt Gingrich's campaign last week. He's also been Perry's political strategist for years, and his departure from Gingrichland helped further fuel the Perry speculation.

Carney said last week that his departure had nothing to do with Perry and no impact on what the Texas governor would do. He confirmed earlier Tuesday that he'd be with Perry for a speech that's now getting a stronger spotlight.
The event, the source said, was hosted by Dan Isaacs, the Manhattan GOP chairman whose annual dinner Perry is addressing tonight. Also on hand was New York State GOP chairman Ed Cox and his new in-law, Republican donor John Catsimatidis.
Perry, for his part, did not really discuss running for president, the source said, but did talk up Texas as a success story.

Perry's been a good Governor. Unemploynment rates, in Texas, are under the national average, no state income tax, one of the highest population growths in the nation, and companies are relocating to Texas because of the business friendly atmosphere. Why would you not want to hear what this person in saying? No, you just want to dismiss people who are a threat to being elected President.
